What Are Septated Cysts

septated cystsSeptated cysts are a type of ovarian cyst. In every woman’s reproductive system are two organs called the ovaries; the ovaries produce an egg in the menstrual cycle of a woman in a process called ovulation. When the egg is mature, the pituitary gland sends a signal to the sac that contains the egg, called the follicle, which is in the ovary, to release the egg for onward transmission to the womb for possible fertilization. The empty ruptured follicle transforms into what is called the corpus luteum, which begins to produce large quantities of progesterone and estrogen in preparation for pregnancy.

However there are times when, whether the egg is released or not, the follicle, empty or not, develops into a fluid filled sac called an ovarian cyst. There are different types of cysts, one of which is called septated cysts.

The word ‘septated’ is derived from the word ‘septa’, which means wall. A septated cyst as the name implies, is a cyst that is divided into compartments with walls; it is also called a complex ovarian cyst because it contains not only fluid but also solid particles. They develop from the egg cells of the ovaries.

Causes of Septated Cysts

The cause of septated cysts is not certain but there are theories that obesity or genetics could have a role in septated cyst formation.

Symptoms of Septated Cysts

The symptoms of septated cysts include severe abdominal pain and discomfort along with all the other symptoms which are common with ovarian cyst.

Types of Septated Cysts

There are three main types of septated cysts, namely:
Dermoid cysts are filled with different types of mature tissue like fat, hair, skin and due to the nature of its contents, they are more often than not benign.

Cystadenoma are usually benign, they are complex septated ovarian cysts; they are usually filled with mucus and fluid. Often they grow very large and could cause pressure in the abdomen resulting in severe pain.

Endometrioma is dangerous because it can be found outside the uterus.

Treatment of Septated Cysts

There are different ways of treating septated cysts, including:

Surgery– Laparoscopy, a surgical procedure in which a small incision in made in the belly button region and a laparoscope used to remove the cyst, could be used if the cyst is small enough. However if the cyst is large a larger incision will be made in a procedure called laparotomy. Along with the associated risks and discomfort of any surgical procedure, a patient will need to allow time for recovery.

Drugs– The use of prescription medicines or hormonal treatment may be recommended to treat septated cysts. Unfortunately, as with any medications there are usually risks and side effects that may be encountered.

Holistic method– is treatment that directly addresses the root cause of the cyst. The holistic approach also deals with the emotional and spiritual well being of the woman so that the treatment is an all encompassing one to not only prevent recurrence of the cyst, but restore peace, confidence and wholeness to her life.  Natural Ovarian Cyst Relief Secrets is an excellent guide for treating ovarian cyst using holistic methods.
